Shifty has long been leveled against Jews. 

In the 12th Century, French theologian Peter of Blois introduced the idea of Jews as ‘shifty’ – changing shapes to deceive people – and if we’re being honest, we kind of wish it were true. If we could shape-shift that would be so sick. Anyway, Blois went on to compare Jews to Satan: ‘The manner of his [the Jews’] father the Devil often changes into monstrous shapes’. And why are Jews ‘shifty’? Again, to conceal their ‘true agenda’ – world domination, the New World Order, and enslaving the global population. Somehow antisemites keep finding new ways to say the same one thing over and over. Whether via media manipulation, Cultural Marxism, or other means, Jews are allegedly pursuing a nefarious agenda through deception (a fancy way of saying ‘lying’). This pushes the idea that Jews are “two faced” and untrustworthy, that they always have nefarious ulterior motives.

This alleged Jewish shapeshifting (or masquerade) includes accusations that Jews are also imposters. 

To white supremacists, Jews LARP as white people to sow the destruction of the White race from within (which, if we're being honest, sounds like a lot of work, and we don't really have time to destroy the white race from within). For Anti-Zionists, this often takes the form of conspiracy theories that Jews pretend to be Middle Eastern to steal the land (and culture) of Arab or other Middle Eastern peoples.

So when you hear Tucker Carlson describing the Jewish President of Ukraine as “shifty”, or the former President of the United States calling a Jewish Congressman “shifty”, it’s an echo from antiquity.
